Steve Harvey skipped rehearsal of Miss Universe announcement
Santos was among the millions of people watching the pageant on TV Sunday when the host, American comedian Steve Harvey, misread his cue card and announced that Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, had won the title.
Adding insult to injury, after Harvey announced he had made a mistake, the crown was literally plucked from Miss Colombia’s head and placed on Miss Philippines. The organization did not blame any individual for the mistake and apologized to Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez and Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach, including their respective families and fans. The incident was widely discussed on social media and Harvey even apologised to the ladies. The video in query seems as if it have been published on the Miss Universe Snapchat channel, still it’s not there. Let us know in the comments!
“Harvey, however, was quick to issue an apology”. “Are you going to take the crown from me now?’ And they [said], ‘No, no, you’re really the victor.'” We feel so bad for Pia that she has to spend her first few days discussing the screw up.
“[Gutierrez] was crying and then there was a crowd around her, the girls who were comforting her”, she continued, remembering the emotional fallout backstage. It quickly became viral, as the Twitter hashtag #DearMissGermany that followed suit.
“I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake”.
“Donald Trump must be overjoyed that as soon as he sells the pageant it goes off the rails,” it read.
He softened his tone in an interview on NBC’s Today Show, calling Harvey a “great guy” who handled it well.
Harvey’s blunder was reasonable given that he was hired to host the contest “at the last minute”, a source told Radar Online.
It was also a proud moment for Filipina beauty queens and past Miss Universe finalists Miriam Quiambao, Venus Raj, and Ariella Arida as Wurtzbach brought home the crown.
