Steve Miller joins Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Class of 2016
The 31st Annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will air on HBO in spring 2016.
Fans of old white guys should get ready to fill their boots again, because the 2016 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees have been announced.
On the subject of the other inductees joining him this year, he praised Cheap Trick’s induction but mentioned that he would love to soon see The Spinners be nominated, as one of his “all-time favorite live groups”. “As a kid, I met Les Paul and Charles Mingus and a bunch of people like that, and they were musicians and that’s really what I wanted to be, so that’s where I set my goals”. The hit biopic, Straight Outta Compton, probably was influential in the group’s having made the list over other bands that perhaps also are deserving to be members of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This is the verdict of the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, an institution that singles out bands and individual artists for their “unquestionable musical excellence” without exactly making a rush to judgment.
The Steve Miller Band has had 25 members in the past five decades, but the guitarist will stand alone at the podium next April as the sole inductee. Chaka Khan and The Cars will also have to wait for a later date, if ever, to reach the hall of fame. “So it’s very exciting and I’m looking very much forward to it. It’s very cool to have it happen”.
James said the music has “been part of all my workout routines since I’ve grown up, and N.W.A. and Tupac and Biggie and Jay and all those guys, Eric B. and Rakim”.
N.W.A. gave rise to the solo careers of Ice Cube, the late Eazy-E and Dr. Dre, who went on to become a multimillionaire entrepreneur employed by Apple.
N.W.A will be the fifth hip-hop act to be inducted into the Hall of Fame after Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five, Run-DMC, Beastie Boys and Public Enemy, in that order. Though not a rock act per se, her influence on contemporary music arguably supersedes that of Steve Miller or Deep Purple-and both her brother Michael Jackson and fellow ’80s icon Madonna have been inducted.
