Steve Nash confirms coaching role with Warriors, talks Stephen Curry
Steve Nash is joining the defending National Basketball Association Champion Warriors, pairing the two-time MVP in Phoenix with last season’s MVP, Steph Curry.
“We have a great staff, and they’ll do a lot of the work, and I’ll probably try to get off my feet more than I normally would”.
According to ESPN.com’s Ethan Sherwood Strauss, Kerr underwent two surgeries to fix a herniated disk in his back since the end of the season.
Nash, whose playing career ended with his missing all of last season with a recurring back injury, will be embedded with the Warriors periodically throughout this season.
“He’s a proven scorer, a proven shooter, and he’s at an age where he should still be able to play”, Kerr said of the 32-year-old.
Nash and Kerr have a history together with the Phoenix Suns when Kerr was general manager and Nash the star point guard.
If there’s good news for the Warriors it’s that they have a solid assisting coaching staff and a stable veteran core that can survive while Kerr rests up and regains strength for the regular season.
“I think Steve is the most innovative athlete, I’ve ever seen, when it comes to pursuing greatness – whether it’s conditioning, basketball drills, whatever”, Kerr said. “Sounds like it may be his previous year as a Laker, but I think that’s kind of what came out of there”. “It wasn’t the summer I was envisioning after winning the title, thinking this is the greatest thing ever”. Myers said he had only “just begun” talks with Jeffrey Wechsler when Barnes switched to Jeff Schwartz, and that – as usual – he expects negotiations to go down to the wire. “He’ll be welcome any time, certainly”.
“The last couple months have stunk for me; I’m not kidding”, Kerr said, only partially in jest, on Friday at Warriors headquarters. “He may find that he does, ultimately, but he’s a very interesting guy – he’s a filmmaker, a father, and a soccer fan and player, and right now he needs to go out and do the fun stuff that he’s been missing out on for 20 years”.
