Steve Nash thinks Kevin Durant joining the Warriors is ‘great’
“It’s tough”, Durant said Thursday at his introductory press conference. It was organic. It was authentic.
“I don’t feel like a bum. Hopefully I did. I’m sure we’ll talk”.
He joins the National Basketball Association runner-up Warriors – who rallied from a 3-1 deficit to beat Durant’s former Oklahoma City Thunder in a thrilling seven-game Western Conference Finals before losing the finals in seven games to Cleveland – on a two-year contract worth more than $54 million.
Durant said he based much of his decision on how he felt he’d get along with Golden State’s starters, including Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Draymond Green and Andre Iguodala. He’s a basketball player, and we think the style fits him perfectly. We have guys who are not just shooters, not just ball handlers. In fact, every team in the league probably made a play for Durant – although some were completely ignored. “The combination of all these guys together should be a lot of fun to watch”.
The Warriors held a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven NBA Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers, but unthinkably were unable to close out the series as they became the first team to squander such a lead, missing out on a second consecutive championship.
“He’s better than I thought”, Warriors GM Bob Myers said. Even if individual games have the suspense and unpredictability that we love as sports fans, since the entire season will have a very predictable outcome, my interest is very limited.

Does he feel guilty about leaving the Thunder?
It’s a big day for Dub Nation – Kevin Durant is officially a Golden State Warrior. Staying in Oklahoma City, he said, would’ve been the easier decision. The Warriors have already added Zaza Pachulia and David West to cover the minutes when they don’t want to go small, and there are now reports that Ray Allen may want to come back and play on this team, because who wouldn’t want to play on this team.
Whether Durant is chasing a ring or not, winning the championship is never a given, especially when facing LeBron James and the star-studded Cavs, and the possibility of obtaining a ring still depends heavily on Durant’s personal performance and his ability to work with his new teammates.
Around the Warriors the last few weeks, the working idea has been that if they landed Durant, they would start the most lethal five in National Basketball Association history (theoretically): Durant, Curry, Klay Thompson, Green and Iguodala.
“I’ve seen a lot of guys with insane egos”.
