Steve Sarkisian en route to treatment when he was sacked
At the age of 70, Spurrier could surface at another school down the road in a few capacity, but not likely as a head coach. “He was a great guy with me and I didn’t hear about any of this type of stuff until this year”.
USC heads to South Bend to play Notre Dame without Sarkasian because he was asked by athletic director Pat Haden to take an indefinite leave.
“I want to be the head coach”, he said.
Grier admitted to taking a performance-enhancing substance unknowingly by consuming an over-the-counter product without studying the contents label and checking with the team’s medical staff. Grier will practice with the team during the suspension.
Not many could have expected what came next on one of college football’s most stunning – and unbelievable – days off the field. “They have to find an established, successful head coach at the highest level”. The Sun Devils served USC a 62-41 loss – and the very next day, then-head coach Lane Kiffin was sacked. And last night, after Helton organized a team BBQ for players, coaches and family members to watch the new ESPN documentary “Trojan War”, he said he realized how much this opportunity means to him. “After this season, we will be re-evaluating whether or not to come back to the school”.
OK you only get so many chances before enough is enough, and it looks like USC has had enough of coach Steve Sarkisian. The next decision just might not be his to make. “I’ve been in this profession 21 years”.
Normally, Kelly has a 24-hour rule: Win or lose, the players have 24 hours to mull over a game and then move on. “And that’s what I gave him”. Sarkisian recruited Kessler while at Washington and nearly got him to commit there. He wanted another rock star who would fit right in with the rest of Los Angeles.
He added the passing game coordinator role in 2012 and became the offensive coordinator in 2013.
So it was no surprise that the Trojans senior quarterback wished Sarkisian well Wednesday, the first day USC players were permitted to speak to the media since Sarkisian was sacked.
“No matter who the coach is or what the circumstances are, USC always gets top-shelf talent”.
So a college football coach allegedly showing up to practices and games drunk can not be tolerated and raises serious questions about the university that hired him.
Haden also said that he still hadn’t spoken with Sarkisian, but that he looked forward to doing so. I am not one that kicks a man when he is down. “It’s unfortunate that sometimes the personal things affect the business”. Clay Helton began his college career as a quarterback at Auburn before finishing at the University of Houston, where he played for his father. He gained a reputation as an up-and-coming offensive coach, and Kiffin persuaded him to leave a job at Arkansas State two months after accepting it.
Williams played three seasons at USC, including previous year with Sarkisian.
“It’s special”, Helton said. “You have to be yourself, and you have to coach it your own way”.
How the Bruins respond to that is yet to be seen, but just know that things are going to change and for UCLA, who I have stated are fantastic at making improvements (sans Arizona State), they can also make long term adjustments in response to the changing landscape in LA.
