Steve Spurrier Donates Final Paycheck From South Carolina To Gamecock Club
University of SC head football coach Will Muschamp has confirmed the hiring of Travaris Robinson and Bobby Bentley as assistant coaches to his staff, it was announced today.
“Spurrier raised the expectation level here, and we’re going to continue to push that forward and push the envelope to win championships consistently here in Columbia”, Muschamp said. He was the Tigers’ linebacker coach for one season before being elevated to defensive coordinator from 2002-04.
Athletics Director Ray Tanner said the university was proud to welcome Muschamp because he had a lot of characteristics that the school was looking for in a football coach. South Carolina’s new head coach agreed to a five-year $16 million deal to take over as the Gamecocks’ next coach, according to James Crepea of Al.com.
“We look forward to a quick restoration of being in the top 10 and Will is the man who can do it”, said trustee Chuck Allen, a former SC football player. It is official! Introducing our new Head Coach, Will Muschamp! He acknowledged in October that his future is uncertain, saying, “I doubt I’ll ever head coach again” when he specified that he was resigning and not retiring.
“I’m certainly in accordance with everything [Ray Tanner] wants done”, Muschamp said. Just think, if Georgia hadn’t fired Richt, then Smart obviously wouldn’t have left for Athens, and instead would have most likely been the top target at SC – not Muschamp.
Yet, Muschamp wasn’t going to put too much emphasis on his first recruiting class, given his relatively late start in the process: “It’s not about winning in February, it’s about winning in the fall”. “If Clemson, Georgia, if I can go on to any of those places, I’d like to do that”.
“We got our man. We’ve got a Gamecock”, Tanner said. Coach Muschamp said the same thing. Every year adds $100,000, so by year 5 he’ll have $3.5 million.
Smith replaces Josh Dean at Kentucky State and promised during Monday’s introductory news conference that he will throw the ball. Get on board. Here we go.
“We’re going to run the Triple-option”, Littrell said. He also coached under Nick Saban at LSU and was the Tigers defensive coordinator in 2003 when they won the BCS championship.
Auburn’s defense allowed 30 points or more in the final six SEC games of the 2014 season, the worst stretch in school history.
