Steven Gerrard – difficult for me to support Raheem Sterling
Steven Gerrard has slammed want-away Liverpool attacker Raheem Sterling for his actions this summer as Manchester City prepare to test Liverpool’s resolve with a final offer worth £45m, according to the Mirror. Liverpool are forced to leak this sort of ludicrous nonsense to the press precisely because of Sterling’s refusal to go on the pre-season tour – it puts the Reds in such a weak position, they have to try to assert their strength somehow.
But it remains to be seen if City value Sterling that highly or if they are willing to play a waiting game to see if Liverpool drop their price.
The paper reports that Man City are set to make a fresh bid of £40m plus £5m in add-ons fees for the 20-year-old England worldwide, which Liverpool are “almost certain to reject.”
The squad are due to fly out to Thailand on Sunday ahead of their first friendly against a Thai All Stars side in Bangkok next week.
Many Liverpool fans have called for Rodgers to be sacked, especially as their campaign came to an embarrassing end with a 6-1 defeat to Stoke City on the last day of the season. It is very hard for me to support Raheem and the people around him for what they are trying to do with his contract and his career at a young age.
These days players dictate where they want to go a lot more than they used to, which some clubs get the hump about.
Henderson is likely to be named as Liverpool’s new captain by manager Brendan Rodgers. It looks very disappointing from where I’m sitting.
“I want to continue showing my level and everything that I can give the Arsenal”, he said. Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, entering his fourth season at Anfield, is still trophy-less and will be looking to improve on last year’s 6th-place finish.
Ex- Reds captain Gerrard, now an LA Galaxy player, believes Sterling has gone about things the wrong way and that he needs to confront the club’s hierarchy as opposed to hiding on the couch watching Netflix.
“Jordan’s been loyal to the club by signing a new deal and I wish him well”, Gerrard told BBC Sport.
Gerrard believes the affair is playing out badly. “Jordan’s so professional, he’s a victor, a great lad”.
