Stewart faces new law suit from Ward Jr family
Since the incident, Stewart has not competed in a sprint-car race. Drivers with at least one win and in the top 30 in points are virtually assured of a spot in the field of 16. He trails David Gilliland (currently ranked 30th) by 13 points with five regular season races remaining.
News of the suit came as Stewart was practising at Watkins Glen global for Sunday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup CHEEZ-IT 355. “That win means so much”, Gordon said Friday before going out and pacing the second Sprint Cup practice, the memory of his crash at Indianapolis two weeks ago a stark reminder of how quickly a big advantage in points can vanish. I’ve tried to be respectful of their process of grieving and not push myself on them.
NASCAR fans from across the country are in Watkins Glen.
When asked by The Toronto Sun on Friday if he feels any extra pressure to repeat his win from last year and validate his status in NASCAR, Allmendinger said he could care less what anyone thinks. I believe in myself, more importantly my team owners and my team believe in me. “It’s great when you get it right, it’s easy to get it wrong”.
For the first time in the Cup series there is the chance that the drivers might have to race in the rain, after a rule change added wet weather tyres for road course events in 2015.
“As a driver, you have to be super aggressive in the braking zones”, Gordon said of Watkins Glen’s road course.
He missed three more races after last year’s incident with Ward. “We can not comment on anything more due to pending litigation”. “Back then you had to try to be good everywhere because every track mattered for the championship”. It was something that we pursued heavily.
“I enjoyed it, even though I didn’t grow up road racing a lot”.
And though Gordon struggled in his first road course outing in a stock auto, his background served him well. Unfortunately, he was struck by the racing veteran’s vehicle and was thrown into the air leading to his death.
In 2007, Gordon had the lead with two laps to go with Stewart pressing and spun out entering the first turn, handing Stewart an unexpected victory. If you would like to discuss another topic, look for a relevant article.
Stewart is scheduled to race at Watkins Glenn worldwide this weekend.
The family of a young driver struck and killed by Tony Stewart’s vehicle on an upstate New York sprint racing track filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against the NASCAR star Friday.
It’s not clear what litigation the racetrack is referring to, but the family of Kevin Ward, Jr. did file a lawsuit against Stewart nearly one year to the day of Ward’s death. Ward, 20, died of massive blunt trauma.
“Kevin Ward would be alive today if not for the reckless and risky actions of Tony Stewart, who eventually will have to answer for what he did”, said attorney Mark Lanier in a news release.
“I’m not going to lie, it is a stressful weekend for us because we all have the same expectations”, Burns said.
