Stoke-on-Trent Central Labour Party backs Yvette Cooper
In the speech at Morningside Parish Church, Mr Murray – who held on to his seat with an increased majority despite the SNP’s landslide – is expected to say: “The way people engage with politics has changed, but the way the Scottish Labour Party has worked hasn’t kept pace. We have to elect a leader capable of taking us to victory in the 2020 election and of being a Labour prime minister”. He stands a very good chance of winningunless the Labour Party establishment can turn around the tide over the next six weeks.

Whilst the nominations are considered an indicator of the level of support for each candidate, they have no bearing on the leadership election result, due to be announced in September. The next election is years away, he is the frontrunner and he is in command – Yvette Cooper, Andy Burnham and Liz Kendall are struggling to keep up.
Mr Smith said that Mr Corbyn reminded him of post-war Labour PM Clement Attlee, and had impressed him by rebelling against the party leadership to oppose the Government’s Welfare Reform Bill in the Commons.
Mr Burnham’s warning came after a supporter of Mr Corbyn Dave Ward of the Communication Workers Union described the Islington North MP as the antidote to the Blairite “virus”.
Ms Kendall told The Observer she thinks Mr Corbyn is “ahead” in the leadership race, but insisted: “Things will change”.
Party members are “desperate for an alternative to where we have been for the last five years, and they want hope for the future”, she said in an interview today.
While many have since been won over, seduced by the taste of electoral victory, some still harbour a desire to return to the days when Labour was truly a voice of the Left. The different labour markets on either side of the Channel help explain why so many illegal immigrants around Calais want to leave sclerotic France for dynamic Britain.
After making her announcement on Channel 4 News, Miss Tomlinson was tweeted by Mr Burnham, thanking her for the support for his campaign.

He dismissed suggestions that his support was being inflated by mischief-makers who were not true Labour backers.
The only Welsh MP to nominate Mr Corbyn, Huw Irranca-Davies, said he only did so to ensure a “better contest” with a broader choice of candidates. All have ceased to be mass political movements, and are now dominated by a core of people, who are increasingly unrepresentative of voters at large, and tend to pull these parties further to the left.
