Storm slams Virginia, leaving 4 dead, dozens injured

Tornado damage was reported in Waverly not long after a tornado warning was issued Wednesday afternoon. There were no reports of injuries.

Another building collapse was reported in West Donegal Township.

Storms, which stretched from the south to the northeast, created risky tornadoes, leaving power outages and destruction in their path.

A few tornadoes, along with damaging wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour, are likely with some of the storms, the Storm Prediction Center said. They were in their mobile home when the tornado hit, and their bodies were found about 300 yards from their home on Maifield Avenue. The watch area includes the District of Columbia, Delaware, central and eastern Maryland, southern New Jersey, southeast Pennsylvania, and Northern Virginia.

More unsafe tornadoes were forecast from Florida up to the Mid-Atlantic Wednesday, part of a storm system that earlier killed at least three people, destroyed homes and left tens of thousands without power. He stopped at The Moorings apartment complex, where winds whipped the roof off of at least two buildings.
