Stormy weather possible Thursday night and a chance of snow Friday
Tonight, the skies will be cloudy with some light rain of sleet, depending on localised temperatures, but by morning there will be a frost and freezing fog.
Schneider said temperatures won’t get above freezing Wednesday, wrapping the region in winter weather for the day and sparking a winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service. Tomorrow’s rainmaker will be deepening and making the track up the east coast as we prepare to start the weekend. That chance will skyrocket to 90% for Thursday night, when the low should be about 39 degrees. As we move through the day we will reach a high of 45, but another lo will move in and bring us rain or late Thursday into Thursday night. Another rain chance heads into the Valley early in the next work week.
The rain will end late Friday evening. During that time, the colder sector of the storm system will be arriving on Friday. Models have indicated there could be some wrap-around moisture after midnight Friday through daybreak Saturday. Most of the wintry mix is north of I-40 where temps are below freezing. At this time is looks like the rain will change to snow during the early afternoon in the Shoals, 4 p.m.to 6 p.m.in the Huntsville Metro area, and 6 p.m.to 8 p.m.in areas of northeast Alabama. I’ve seen some model charts floating around the web showing light accumulation amounts but keep in mind, these data do not consider a very wet ground.
The next batch of winter weather is set to come in with a one-two punch. However, there is still a large amount of uncertainty. This is a trend we will continue to monitor. Tomorrow our attention will turn towards a developing low-pressure system that will lift across our state tomorrow night.
