‘Straight Outta Compton’ actors hope to inspire new generation of NWA fans

Movie theaters taking heightened security measures over Straight Outta Compton’s debut weekend will be able to have those expenses paid back by Universal Pictures, according to multiple reports.

Universal’s “Straight Outta Compton” scored a huge $4.96 million on Thursday after the film has rolled out in 2,264 theatres.

With Dre and Cube producing the film, I wondered just how much they shaped and molded the story that Gray was given. With the movie set to hit theaters on Friday, August 14, a bevy of magazines have released their covers of the illustrious group this week, most notably Billboard.

“I made some F***ing terrible mistakes in my life”.

“The studio is proud of our association with Straight Outta Compton, which portrays the rise of five talented young men from underprivileged and oppressed backgrounds into one of the most influential music groups in modern history”.

LAPD spokesperson Jack Richter told Variety: “In light of everything that’s going on, we are dispatching additional officers to theaters that are showing the film”.

He asked how N.W.A. thought they’d changed the world’s perception of their neighborhood, Ice Cube jumped in and responded, “Unless you come from Compton, it’s not a world you’re privy to”.

Even today, some see N.W.A.’s message as a potential threat.

Ice Cube said their music distinguishes between “upstanding ladies” and “b**ches”.

Ice Cube’s son, O’Shea Jackson Jr., stars as his famous dad in the movie, and he got the ultimate stamp of approval on premiere night in downtown Los Angeles.

And it’s a real nice, refreshing thing to see happen. (The Los Angeles riots are an important motif in the movie’s second half.) ‘They talk about bullying in society, but police are the worst bullies that we have to deal with, ‘ he says.
