Straight Outta Compton Cast Didn’t Get Invited To The Oscars
It is being said the only people invited are the two writers nominated for the best original screenplay. Ice Cube, who produced the film, was reportedly not invited, nor were black cast members. “It has been this way for decades”, an Academy spokesperson told People.
“The Academy invites the nominees only, and each studio gets a limited ticket allotment, based on the number of nominated films, to use at their discretion”.
Despite the unflattering circumstantial evidence, not much is known about the criteria for receiving an invite to the Academy Awards so it is unclear if this was a deliberate snub or simply an unfortunate oversight. In the aftermath of a total washout of African-American nominees for the coveted Oscar for the second straight year, now TMZ is reporting that the cast and crew of “Straight Outta Compton” will not even be in the house at the Dolby Theater. It’s the only nomination the N.W.A. biopic received, despite a slew of predictions that it would be nominated for Best Picture, among other awards.

Ice Cube, real name O’shea Jackson Sr., has publically downplayed his disappointment over the lack of recognition for the film, which was praised by critics and grossed over £140 million ($200 million) worldwide at the box office.
