‘Straight Outta Compton’ director in the running for ‘Fast & Furious 8’
The Fast and the Furious movies have always been about family, and they’re about to add a new and illustrious member.
The news is not official, but studio executives are going to meet with producer/star Diesel and producer Neal Moritz. Vin Diesel. Kinda. Earlier in the week, Diesel sparked rumors regarding Gray’s involvement in the project when he shared an image of the director to his Facebook page. “Excited to bring u the next chapter of the #FastFamily saga”.
Gray’s “Straight Outta Compton” grossed over $150 million at the box office, coming in well over the film’s budget of $20 million.
The director tweeted he has come on to direct the next installment of the series, which begins filming next year. What we do know is that F. Gary Gray beat out a shortlist of contenders jockeying to collaborate with the deceased Walker.
During the same interview, F. Gary Gray made it clear that his transition from directing music videos to feature films was not an overnight decision.
Quite a few fans and critics of the Fast & Furious franchise became highly skeptical when it was first announced that there would even be an eighth movie.
As many reports suggested, Universal would reach their decision this week as Furious 8’s release is still scheduled for April 14, 2017.
