‘Straight Outta Compton’ might get a follow-up movie about Dogg Pound, Snoop
Well, that didn’t take long.
Grio fam, how do you feel about a potential Straight Outta Compton ‘sequel?’
After blowing past initial expectations and opening to a whopping .2 million, Straight Outta Compton is on its way to spending another weekend at the top.
The news comes from Daz Dillinger, rapper/producer and one half of the veteran Dogg Pound duo (along with Kurupt).
According to TMZ, a Straight Outta Compton sequel, which will feature the rise of Snoop Dogg, Tupac and other West Coast rap legends, is already in the preliminary stages of planning. We’re told the title is “Dogg Pound 4 Life“.
Daz told TMZ the movie will focus on the music, but won’t exclude any affiliated gang violence and how it impacted the genre. Dr. Dre’s son, Curtis Young, is said to fill his father’s shoes in the film and all new actors will be plucked to play Ice Cube and Snoop.
The film stars O’Shea Jackson Jr.as his dad Ice Cube and Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre in the story about how N.W.A. emerged in the 1980s in response to life in the hood and police brutality in Los Angeles. The report makes no mention of a director, and whether Compton director F. Gary Gray will be behind the camera is unclear. The additional screens will bring the total number of theaters showing “Straight Outta Compton in North America to more than 3,000″. It sounds like this project isn’t a sequel at all, but another movie about rappers hoping to cash-in on the success of Compton.
