Strasburg to start Sunday for Nationals vs Brewers
Nieuwenhuis broke the deadlock in the sixth, following a Chris Carter single with his fourth home run of the season.
It marked the first time that Davies had given up three earned runs in a start since May 21 and the first time he’d done so in an inning since April 29.
Unlike his last visit to Miller Park, when he took a no-hitter into the seventh, Scherzer found himself in trouble early, issuing three straight one-out walks in the first inning. I’m not really used to having too many ribs pop out all the time, but I guess when they do, I’ve had all the symptoms.
Nationals: Stephen Strasburg (10-0, 2.90 ERA) pitches Sunday after missing his last scheduled start with an upper back strain.
“I think we’ve done a pretty good job here at home”, Counsell said. Jonathan Villar had three hits for Milwaukee, including an RBI single in the second.
Next Up: The Nationals and Brewers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, as Gio Gonzalez and the Nationals hope to snap their losing streak against Matt Garza and the Brewers.
“My breaking stuff wasn’t very consistent today but I was able to grind through some innings”, said Garza, who missed the first two months of the season with a back injury.
“I’ve been thinking about it probably for a couple weeks now”, Baker said before the series finale in LA, as quoted by Washington Post writer Chelsea Janes, “the same way I was thinking about moving Murph”. I’m sure he wouldn’t have gone out there if he wasn’t ready. Strasburg has been outstanding thus far with a flawless 10-0 record with a 2.90 ERA. “He says he’s ready, then we’ll welcome him”. “It was nice to get one off him finally”. “Especially after the night that Ramos had, and Murph, those guys are swinging the bat so we’ve got to carry it throughout the lineup”. “He’ll come back even stronger than when he left”.
Nationals: LHP Gio Gonzalez (3-6, 4.25 ERA) makes his 15th start of the season but hasn’t pitched at Miller Park since 2014.
Brewers: RHP Matt Garza (0-0, 0.90 ERA) looks for his first win after two consecutive no decisions since being reinstated from the 60-day disabled list (right elbow soreness) on June 10.
