Stray bullet grazes 8-year-old in police shooting crossfire
During a pat-down, a gun was discovered on the 19-year-old and he fled, firing shots at the officers.
Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni says Dante Allen was charged Thursday with attempted murder and weapons offenses.
Allen was charged in April with possession of cocaine, possession of heroin, tampering with evidence and obstructing.
“I put the two of them (the girl and her mother) in the ambulance”, Nunn said.
Instead, the girl, who was at home watching TV when the gunfire erupted, was released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
A 9-year-old girl inside her Jersey Shore home was struck by a bullet fired during a shootout between a suspect and police outside the house Wednesday evening, neighbors and witnesses said. “You’re supposed to be safe in your home, you can’t even be safe in your own home”. Around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, officers were on patrol near Springwood and Atkins Avenue when they spotted a man wanted in an investigation. Gramiccioni said he couldn’t comment on whether Allen was known to McGhee.
It happened a day after the shooting, which investigators said took place following a stop by Asbury Park Patrolman Terrence McGhee. McGhee returned fire, striking Allen.
McGhee is on paid administrative lead in accordance with police protocol pending an investigation. The suspect was also taken to a hospital.
Authorities asked anyone with information to contact prosecutors Detective Michael Bonanno at 800-533-7443.
