Street Fighter V DLC can be unlocked for free
That segued into the latest announcement, which involves making Street Fighter into a service.
To that end, there will be a pair of in-game currencies, one called Fight Money and the other Zenny. Normally, you have to pay with real money to get additional DLC like the new characters. Street Fighter V will have one disc that players need to own, and all upgrade patches in the future will be free, thus keeping all SFV players in the same community. Nothing too surprising there, however it’s expected more characters will be revealed closer to the game’s release, which is currently March 2016. The biggest news regarding Street Fighter 5, however, comes to its character line-up. “The mission here is to create a constantly evolving Street Fighter world that’s going to deliver to all different player types”.
As you might imagine, there will come a time when Capcom will want to expand the roster beyond the starting cast, which we were told will be comprised of 12 returning characters and four completely new ones for a healthy day one crop of 16 fighters. It’s interesting to see Street Fighter V use this business model, and it’s in keeping with modern gaming industry. The most noteworthy commentator would have to be Seth Killian, the former Capcom community manager and former lead designer at Sony Santa Monica, and it’s great to hear his expert knowledge, insight, and overall love for fighting games while playing.
Street Fighter 5 will release in March 2016 as a PS4 and PC exclusive.
