Street Fighter V Producer Confirms Second Wave of DLC Fighters
Yoshinori Ono, the producer of Capcom‘s “Street Fighter” game series, discussed the important character details of “Street Fighter 5”.
Game developer Capcom is planning to release a second wave of DLC for the popular fighting video game, “Street Fighter V”.
“I think we’re just going to watch how things progress”.
On the topic of monetization in Street Fighter V, Dahlgren acknowledged that microtransactions evoke a negative reaction from the community more often than not.
Dahlgren reiterated that Capcom is treating Street Fighter V as a platform. According to Ono, Sony’s current generation console is at an attractive price point of $300, and there’s plenty of time between now and the game’s release next year in February for fans to get a hold of one.
“Street Fighter 5” has been years in the making and now that it’s nearly here, the spotlight is on the highly-anticipated reinvention of the Capcom favorite.
This “completely new way” is essentially by offering new characters after launch with Fight Money, which can either be earned by playing through the game or with Zenny (aka real world money). “We’d like to continue as long as we can, but we’ll have to see how the product does”.
Lastly, in regards to the teased wave of six DLC characters coming after Street Fighter V’s release, Capcom plans on releasing a new character roughly once every two months when each character is completed. You can upgrade to all the content throughout its lifespan. We’re trying to reward players who stay engaged with the game, and we have respect for our competitive players and we’re making sure that everything that can impact the outcome of a match needs to be earnable with in-game fight money.
“You’re never going to be forced to purchase an upgrade pack or another disc-based product”, said Dahlgren.
