Student killed in fight on Cornell campus
An Ithaca College student is dead and another is injured after being stabbed in a large fight on Cornell University’s campus early Sunday morning, police and school officials said.
The victim’s names are not being released at this time, so their families can be notified.
Police responded to a large fight at 1:57 a.m. Sunday near College Avenue and Campus Road in Ithaca.
Classes at Ithaca College began on August 24, and at Cornell on August 23.
No suspects have been named at this time.
A weapon was also found at the scene, but authorities have not released specific details on the weapon used in the stabbing or any details about the fight.
One of the victims was sent to the local hospital for treatment of “serious injuries”, and the other was was flown upstate to a regional trauma center to be treated for stab wounds.
The student, identified by the Ithaca Voice as 20-year-old Anthony Nazaire, was fatally stabbed just before 2 a.m., according to Ithaca College.
Maley said the college has reached out to “those that we believe might be most immediately affected by this on campus”, offering them support.
Police investigators are asking any pedestrians or motorists who were in the area early Sunday morning to contact police or forward cellphone footage to either the department or IPD officer Jamie Williamson by email at jwilliamson@cityofithaca.org. People can remain anonymous if they choose to do so, police said.
