Student’s death: Ryan International School’s principal, four others arrested; get bail
Divyansh’s body was recovered from a septic tank located at the basement of Ryan International School on Saturday following which a case of negligence was registered against the school authority.
In the letter, that was apparently written before the arrest of the Principal of the school, Sehrawat stressed that the cases, including the one involving the death of a child in an SDMC school, will have to be taken out of the local police stations to ensure “fair probe”.
Police arrested the principal and four other staff of Ryan International School in Vasant Kunj Thursday, five days after six-year-old, Class I student Devansh Kakrora drowned in a water tank on the campus. The six-year-old boy’s parents had earlier blamed the school for the death of their son and termed the entire episode as a “conspiracy”.
Parents of Divyansh had accused the school of carelessness. With the help of CCTV footage and forensic experts from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory, the police traced the day’s happenings and concluded that the school staff had taken no precautions to protect vulnerable children from the open water tank on the school premises.
The school authorities had told the police that the boy was last seen before the seventh period, which was around 12.20 pm.
“They were booked under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC”, said Krishnia. “The boy was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors declared him brought dead”, said a police officer. The Delhi government had also ordered a magisterial probe into the death of the boy.
Police have been interrogating the school staffers, including the principal, for five days. “They later got bail”, said the officer. However, refuting the allegation, the principal said that Divyansh was a special child, who was hyperactive and had a tendency of running away from the classroom.
