Students Gather To Show Support For DACA
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the Obama-era policy would be rescinded today at the Justice Department.
From her office, the march moved to the Hennepin County Public Safety Facility to protest Sheriff Rich Stanek for his support of Trump’s immigration policies.
Almost 800,000 teens and young adults who were brought to this country as young children without any knowledge or say trusted us. Many say they are unsure of what will happen next.
Pending applications filed before Tuesday will continue to be processed. However, at the same time, you have to remember that the parents are responsible for the children’s lack of legal status, not the government. “Congress will need to address this problem”.
Pennsylvania’s Senator Bob Casey spoke out in response to the controversial decision, calling it “immoral” and insulting to the hundreds of thousands of young people it would impact.
“We were, you know pretty comfortable, for these past few years, since 2012”, she said after the rally.
“They could and should send CBSA agents to the border”, she said.
“America is all I’ve ever known”, explains Monica. “So I want everybody to be like me”.
She is a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma studying political science. “We’re going to ask that they do that and that they allow us to work with them and be part of that process”.
“Daca has really changed my life for the better and allowed me to pursue my dreams”, said Batalla Vidal, who arrived in NY from Mexico when he was seven years old.
For now, these so called DREAMERS are hoping the next announcement isn’t one that puts their dreams on a permanent hold.
“She has everything here, the day Trump takes that decision and is she goes to Mexico, what is she going to do over there, she doesn’t know Mexico”.
Exactly how a ending DACA would “help” those benefitting from the program remains fully unclear – that is, unless Trump was suggesting that Congress establish a universal amnesty for all undocumented residents in the USA, an idea he has railed against in the past. “If DACA is to end, hopefully implement something that is much better than DACA that will help out the broken immigration system”.
