Sturridge ‘good to go’ for Liverpool
“Daniel Sturridge is doing his own little pre-season in a good way, seven to 10 days like this and we will see”, revealed the 46-year old former Borussia Dortmund coach.
Sturridge, 26, has started just one match since Klopp arrived at Anfield in October and hasn’t played since complaining of hamstring pain in the 2-0 defeat at Newcastle three weeks ago.
Sturridge watched from the stands as his teammates battled to a 1-0 victory over league leaders Leicester which ended a run of four games without a win.
“I did not notice before I came to England about the hamstring – it is the s*** word of the year for me”, Klopp laughed.
His recovery came at a ideal time for Liverpool who now needs him fit after watching Divock Origi pick up an hamstring injury against Leicester City.
Jurgen Klopp says the debate over his Kop celebration after the 2-2 draw with West Brom highlights what is wrong with modern football.
“It’s always hamstring, hamstring, hamstring”.
Origi was replaced before half-time at Anfield Boxing Day, with replacement Christian Benteke netting the game’s only goal.
“Benteke did really well in the last week in training but we decided on this starting line-up because of the things you saw from Divock in the first half-hour – we needed his speed”.
Origi’s departure after 38 minutes was a blow to the team and the player, with the Belgian having impressed in the first half.
“He fought intensively and worked hard for the team and he made his goal”.
