Sturridge to end injury hell against Red Devils?
It is then thought Sturridge will travel to Merseyside and could be back training as soon as next week.
The England global underwent surgery in May and has spent the majority of his recovery period in Boston, undergoing rehabilitation with Major League Baseball franchise Red Sox, who also fall under the umbrella of Liverpool owners Fenway Sports Group.
Liverpool will reportedly take their time and ease the England worldwide forward into first-team training as they are unwilling to risk any further injuries to the player, who suffered multiple injuries to his hip and calf during the course of last season.
Liverpool’s head of performance Glen Driscoll and lead physio Chris Morgan flew to the US this week to assess his progress.
However, Sturridge is expected to be in contention for a competitive return after three weeks’ training, giving the striker a chance of featuring in the trip to Old Trafford.
However, both outlets report that Liverpool’s first game back from the worldwide break – against Manchester United on 12 September – has been earmarked as his potential return, which seems a lovely little coincidence.
Sturridge’s career at Liverpool has been curtailed by constant injuries, though he has maintained an impressive scoring record of 35 goals in 55 league games.
He has since been over in America recovering from the problem and steadily working more and more with a ball at his feet.
