Submerged vehicle With Body of Missing Man Was Visible on Google Maps
“Why God waited nine years, I have no idea, but we’re happy”.
The mystery of what happened to Niles would finally be solved when a business in Byron Center, Michigan, made a decision to do a few holiday decorating.
Niles’ skeletal remains were discovered in the driver’s seat of the mud-covered auto in the pond, which is located about half a mile from where he was last seen, WOOD-TV reported.
The outline of the vehicle under the water can also be easily seen on a Google Maps satellite image of the area.
The body of a man missing for nearly a decade has been found inside a sunken vehicle that had been visible at the bottom of a pond for years on Google Maps. He had been dealing with depression and cancer.
“Davie Lee Niles, age 72, of Wyoming, passed away and only God knows the time and place”, the family wrote in his obituary.
“For us today, it’s a closure of a long search”, Niles son-in-law, Scott Hathaway, said. Niles’ family tells local NBC affiliate, WOOD-TV, that they are grateful to have a few semblance of closure.
Niles’ family members showed up at the scene Tuesday to see where their loved one had been all this time.
Police were called and they found the body inside.
The Sheriff’s Department says they do not believe foul play was involved, but aren’t certain whether Niles’ death was an accident or suicide. They’re waiting DNA and dental confirmation. It’s good to have him home’.
