Sunderland could land Liverpool forward despite Fiorentina interest
Sunderland have held talks with Liverpool over a loan move for Fabio Borini.
Borini is perfectly adept at playing in a wider role too, and it appears that their interest may have been rekindled after news broke that winger Adam Johnson will be out for at least two months with a dislocated shoulder.
Borini spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Sunderland with his 10 goals helping them reach the League Cup final and avoid relegation.
He is now linked with a move back to the North East by the Express and O’Shea feels he should go through with the deal in order to rebuild his reputation in England. Dutch global Jeremain Lens is still the only attacking player to have arrived, although it remains to be seen whether manager Dick Advocaat would actually be interested in Borini.
However, Sunderland are offering a more lucrative financial package than Fiorentina, and as things stand, sources on Merseyside claim the Liverpool hierarchy would rather do business with the Black Cats.
He had the opportunity to join them permanently last summer but snubbed the offer after Liverpool had agreed a fee rising to £14million.
Liverpool would ideally prefer to sell the forward outright but may accept a loan deal with the view to a permanent transfer further down the line.
However, with Manchester United seemingly set to sign Pedro from Barcelona before the transfer window shuts, there’s a less pressing need to keep Januzaj in the first team squad, and he may ultimately benefit from experience elsewhere. “All the players are”.
