Sunderland ‘in talks’ with Liverpool over signing Fabio Borini
Sunderland also remain hopeful of sealing a loan deal for Manchester United winger Adnan Januzaj, though the player has poured water on rumours linking him with Sunderland via his official twitter account.
Fabio Borini really is closing in on a second loan move to Sunderland, a year after turning down the chance to join the club on a permanent basis – as the Daily Mail are today reporting.
Borini previously enjoyed a successful loan spell at Sunderland in the 2012/13 season where he scored seven goals in 32 appearances, including a late victor at home against Newcastle in the Tyne-Wear derby.
Borini is perfectly adept at playing in a wider role too, and it appears that their interest may have been rekindled after news broke that winger Adam Johnson will be out for at least two months with a dislocated shoulder.
Januzaj sent out a cryptic tweet on Thursday that seemed to dismiss the rumours linking him with a move to Wearside.
However following another hard campaign, Borini has given up on his hopes of being a success at Liverpool and following Sunderland’s approach once again, the 24-year old is likely to agree to a move back to the Stadium of Light this summer.
In the event, he started just three Premier League games.
Red Devils boss Louis van Gaal is considering letting the Belgium worldwide leave in order to get regular first-team football – something Sunderland could certainly offer the 20-year-old.
