Sunderland’s Will Buckley joins Leeds United on loan, as Dick Advocaat looks
Will Buckley is eager to restart his career after formally completing his loan switch to Leeds United.
And after signing on the dotted line, Buckley revealed he snubbed other offers to move to Elland Road.
The winger has been training with the Elland Road outfit since the start of the last week and has officially joined the club until the new year on an emergency 93-day loan.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the 25-year-old Buckley said: “I wanted to go out and get a few games at a big club and Leeds was the flawless opportunity for me to do that”.
“I don’t think Sunderland were that keen on me going at first but they decided that was probably best for me and best for them, too”. It feels like a fresh start for me. “To play games and to perform well is my aim now”.
“Will used his first week to get to know everybody, the players, the coaches and the place”.
Sunderland and Leeds have spent several weeks in talks over reaching a financial agreement for Buckley after Black Cats boss Dick Advocaat decided that the ex-Brighton winger was not part of his plans.
Despite his lack of top flight football, Leeds have pulled off something of a coup to agree a deal with Buckley, considering his experience and proven talent in the Championship. “You can see the way he moves, the way he passes, his speed and his touches – these are all qualities that we were looking to improve in our squad”.
