Sunderland to drop Johnson for United game amid child sex charges
Sam Allardyce’s men host Manchester United this Saturday but Adam Johnson is expected to be omitted from the squad.
Last week, Black Cats manager Sam Allardyce said Johnson would be available to play on during the court case.
To recap, Johnson has pleaded guilty to two charges this morning.
He was suspended by the north-east club following his arrest on 2 March a year ago.
Despite his upcoming court appearance, the 28-year-old was in action last weekend, scoring in a dramatic comeback at Anfield that saw Sunderland draw 2-2 with Liverpool.
It also reports Johnson pleaded guilty to grooming the girl online between December 30, 2014 and February 26, 2015. He then arranged a meeting with the young girl and proceeded to touch her in a sexual way even though he fully knew the nature of his offence.
Adam Johnson will not play for Sunderland against Manchester United after pleading guilty to child sex charges, Omnisport understands.
Between now and Friday, the barristers and Judge Jonathan Rose will discuss points of law, which can not be reported ahead of evidence being presented to jurors.
The winger earned his first England cap back in May 2010 in a World Cup warm up match against Mexico.
