Super blood moon to fill Kent skies during total lunar eclipse
The supermoon will be visible after nightfall, and the eclipse will cast it into shadow sometime after 7:00 p.m. The alignment of the Earth and moon will make the eclipse appear up to 14% larger and 30% brighter they say. The last supermoon eclipse was in 1982, and it won’t happen again until 2033. A total lunar eclipse is when the Earth lines up directly between the sun and the moon. Looking to the east, you’ll see a dark blue layer with a bit of pink above.
On top of that, the moon will be at its closest approach to Earth for the year, meaning it’s also a supermoon.
Observatory officials say the moon will be in partial eclipse by 6:45 p.m. and will be completely clear of its shadow by 9:27 p.m.
“Astronomy, in particular, is something that hooks us up to our most ancient roots”, he said.
Cosmic guide, Elizabeth Peru wrote on her Facebook wall…
“Here we have had four total lunar eclipses in a row on Passover and Tabernacles”, he said. “It gives us this view that there’s a bigger picture than just what we’re concerned with in our daily lives”. Cosmic inspiration may not be your thing, but the moon is still lovely to see. “And the moon is still our nearest neighbor and the only one we’ve sent people to”, explained Buasi.
A supermoon is the result of the fact that the moon does not orbit around the earth in a ideal circle. “When the moon is farthest away it’s known as apogee, and when it’s closest it’s known as perigee. Since the moon will become faint, we can look at the rest of the Universe in a way you normally cannot do with the full moon in the sky”. That distance equates to a few times around the circumference of Earth. Petro said that there shouldn’t be any problem as the eclipse will stop the spacecraft from getting direct access to sunlight for only around three hours.
The rare celestial show will be playing tonight on the world’s biggest screen – the night sky. One passage is from the Book of Joel, chapter 2, verse 31: “The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and awful day of the Lord come”. “It’s not dramatic, but it does look larger”. The stream will go live at 8 p.m. EDT and last until at least 11:30 p.m.
There is a thread in some Christian thinking that the Blood Moons associated with the 2014-15 tetrad could portend the Second Coming.
