Super typhoon to hit Taiwan, China
Under Dujuan’s influence, the outlook for moon watching in Northern and Eastern Taiwan could be pessimistic, the bureau said. It then gradually intensified on a northwesterly path toward China.
Dujuan is also expected to later head across the Taiwan Strait and strike the coast of the southeastern Chinese province of Fujian on Tuesday.
At 8am, the center of the typhoon was located at 620 km east-southeast of Taiwan’s Hualien County and was moving towards the island at 14 km per hour.
“It’s at the upper limit of a moderate storm, and we do not rule out that it gets stronger”, a spokesman from Taiwan’s weather bureau told AFP.
Taiwan was thumped last month by Typhoon Soudelor, a fierce storm that moved on to wreak havoc on the Chinese mainland.
So far there have been no reports of damage or injuries in connection with the typhoon, but “winds are getting stronger now”, an Ishigaki official told AFP by phone.
Dujuan will land in coastal province of Fujian on Tuesday morning after sweeping across Taiwan, bringing gales, torrential rain and high waves to these regions, the NMC forecasted.
