Supermoon + Lunar Eclipse = Super Eclipse
This is when the moon passes through the earth’s shadow. For instance, its Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter can take its surface temperature which will provide information about the moon’s characteristics. A shadow will fall over the moon starting at 9:07, with the total eclipse beginning at 10:11 and lasting for an hour and 12 minutes.
We’ll have a nice moon combo. “The moon orbits the earth every 28 days on a slightly rugby-ball sized path. The very closest supermoon is called a proxigee”. That distance equates to a few times around the circumference of Earth.
A super moon occurs when the moon will look bigger and brighter than usual since it will be at its closest approach to the earth as it makes its orbit.
Petro says this because ancient Incans and Mesopotamian believe that the moon will be under attack during a lunar eclipse, and it raises concern in some people.
This will be the first supermoon shroud in 33 years and the following such occasion will be seen in 2033. Above there’s a still image of what the Earth would like from the moon.
But the proverbial stars only align for this event once every few decades, making this phenomenon much rarer than a supermoon or a lunar eclipse separately. The last lunar eclipse will happen on October 27, so if you miss this one, don’t worry – you still have one more awesome eclipse to see before they are gone for a while. “The only thing that will happen on Earth during an eclipse is that people will wake up the next morning with neck pain because they spent the night looking up”, he said.
Officials of the United States space agency NASA have confirmed the supermoon and said the rate event will start at about 8:11 pm.
The total eclipse can be seen from North and South America, Europe, Africa and certain areas in West Asia and the eastern Pacific.
