“Bowing to public pressure, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had recommended a CBI probe into the snowballing examination scandal that has bruised his government’s credibility with people connected to the case dying mysteriously”.
The STF also submitted his death certificate before the court.
The CBI will begin its probe from Monday.
“We appreciate the stand of the AG”. The infamous Vyapam scam also includes a string of mystery deaths.
This came even as the apex court made a decision to hear the petitions filed by the whistleblowers in the Vyapam scam separately.
The Communist Party of India-Marxist also asked Chouhan to resign if “an impartial investigation” has to be held into the Vyapam scam.
Mr Chouhan’s government has been accused of conspiracy to cover up the scam and protect top state politicians, including Madhya Pradesh’s federally appointed governor, Ram Naresh Yadav.
“We don’t need any help but just a fair probe which can ascertain the cause of the death of my son”, she said.
Bhopal, Jul 9: Filmmaker Prakash Jha, known for making issued-based films, says he will study the ongoing “Vyapam scam” in Madhya Pradesh, a scandal which has become controversial after a slew of deaths of people related to it came to light.
Under pressure, the Madhya Pradesh government on Tuesday petitioned the state’s high court to allow the CBI to take over the investigation from the police.
The high court has said the governor enjoyed immunity from prosecution. A notice has now been issued against the governor by the Supreme Court. “They have been demanding it 5-6 times a day”, he quipped. They have been making allegations as if Madhya Pradesh have been the state for murders. “Probity in public life is my capital”, he said.
A special investigation team (SIT) has been probing the irregularities in the various tests conducted by the MPPEB since 2013.
“I am here to meet the family who has undergone a big loss. I wanted to set the system right”.
Akshay Singh, 38, fell ill while interviewing the parents of Namrita Damor, a 19-year-old medical student who was one of the beneficiaries of the scam and whose body was found on a railway track two years ago.
He welcomed the supreme court’s announcement of the CBI investigation.
On the plea seeking the Supreme Court’s monitoring of the CBI probe, the court said it will take a call after hearing from the investigating agency on July 24.
Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said: “After this directive, the country has greater confidence in the judiciary”. “I am very thankful to the apex court”, he told reporters.
The Congress used the supreme court order to pile pressure on Mr Chouhan. But like the CBI, the Supreme Court too has too much on its plate.
