Supreme Court nominee: Trump’s comments on judges ‘disheartening’
The conversation sparked a war of words between Blumenthal and Trump, who said Gorsuch’s words were taken out of context.
President Donald Trump has said that comments by his U.S. Supreme Court nominee, Neil Gorsuch, about Trump’s criticism of a federal judge were misrepresented.
The second, sent at 8:19 a.m. EST, reads: “Chris Cuomo, in his interview with Sen. FAKE NEWS!” he tweeted.
Mr Gorsuch’s confirmation team confirmed the judge’s comments.
“On a few occasions I have misspoken about my service, and I regret that and I take full responsibility”, Blumenthal said, as quoted in a Washington Post article from 2010. However, Republican strategist Ron Bonjean, who is assisting the White House on the Gorsuch nomination, confirmed Blumenthal’s account to reporters. Mr Trump said in his tweet. But then I realized that Gorsuch is savvy enough to know that such remarks would become public.
Presidents are usually hesitant to weigh in on judicial matters out of respect for the US Constitution, which ensures a separation of powers among the president’s executive branch, Congress and the judiciary. “There is a fundamental core democratic principle at stake”.

Blumenthal stood by his remarks about the meeting.

The president recently also criticized the lower court judge who put the travel ban on hold, labeling him a “so-called judge” and referred to the ruling as “ridiculous”.
On Wednesday, Trump pressed forward with his criticism, arguing that the judiciary has become too political and suggesting that judges on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals might rule against his appeal to reverse a temporary stay on implementing his travel ban because of political considerations, instead of the law.
Yesterday, it was reported that Gorsuch, the President’s choice to replace the late conservative giant Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court, expressed his personal disapproval of Trump’s recent comments about judges, calling Trump’s commentary “disheartening” and “demoralizing”.
