Surface Book & Surface Pro 4 Pre-Orders Arrive

If tablets were the be-all/end-all, why would there be such a market for the accompanying keyboards? The Surface Pro 3 has largely been successful that it’s been cloned by Lenovo, Dell and others.

Surface Pro 4 is bigger and better in every way. It is power-driven by the sixth generation processors like Intel Core M, Core i5 or i7. Nvidia does say that the GPU is new, and as yet unannounced, suggesting that it might be a semi-custom chip developed specifically for the Surface Book and sitting in between models in the existing line-up.

But with the Surface Book, Microsoft’s also introduced complete portability in the mix, with little expense spared on specifications.

The new Surface keyboard has a bigger trackpad that’s made of glass, improving on one of the Surface Pro 3’s weak spots.

The cover for the Surface Pro 4, which includes an optional fingerprint reader, is available for preorder for $129.99. It makes a lot of sense and Microsoft has run into the problem before, with Windows 8, of making a combination that tried to be both mobile and desktop OS and wound up being neither. The Surface Book is certainly thicker, but the added horsepower is worth it. If you’ve used a Surface before, then you probably know what to expect from the Surface Book. The second half – actually getting people to buy it – is by far the hardest part and will involve months of hard work pushing the Surface line at customers and convincing them that Microsoft’s offerings really are what they want – even if the alternative is a MacBook. The Surface Pro 4 is available for preorder and will arrive by October 26, just in time for holiday shopping season.
