A teenager surfer is hospitalized after being bitten by a shark off Florida.
Captain Aaron Jenkins, a patrol spokesman, told the Orlando Sentinel that the boy suffered “significant lacerations” from what was described as a 1.2-or 1.5-metre blacktip shark.
The victim, identified as a male in his early teens, was paddling in the water near Beachway Avenue just before 8:30 a.m. when the shark bit him on the left hand, officials said. I come here every weekend.
A man wrapped his shirt around the bloody hand while emergency responders arrived, another witness told WFTV9.
“He kind of punched back at the shark”, Jenkins told ABC News.
WFTV Cole Toomsoo, the shark attack victim’s friend, said he saw him screaming for help after the bite.
Another 14-year-old surfer was attacked September 20 off New Smyrma in what was the 10th shark attack near Volusia this year.
“The sharks, they can’t differentiate between someone’s hand… and a few kind of small fish”.
