Surprise! Denver Zoo quietly welcomes newborn giraffe
He measures 5 feet tall and weighs 73 pounds, both small figures for a newborn giraffe. The park reports that there is not much change in April’s physical appearance.
An animal park in upstate NY has gone viral with a streaming video of a pregnant giraffe named April.
Thousands of people continue to follow the saga of April the giraffe, who zoo officials say is “very active” Saturday ahead of delivering a long-awaited calf.
In the video streaming on YouTube, April, a 15-year-old reticulated giraffe, can be seen pacing inside her barn and raising her tail before her delivery.
“Why? Could be many reasons”, the Facebook post said. April’s gestation period will have taken 15 months.
Dobby was having difficulty standing and nursing, so zoo staff provided supplemental feeding – but the calf wasn’t receiving enough infection-fighting proteins from his mother. Almost 95,000 people were tuned in to watch the YouTube stream around midday Friday.
First off, rude: This “thing” has a name and it is April and she is handsome.
The zoo plans to hold an online naming competition for the baby after it’s born.
The livestream saw as many as 30 million views in 12 hours, the park reported on Facebook – even though YouTube mistakenly took it down for a while last week, when someone reported it for sexual content or nudity.
Next asked the Denver Zoo to specify “until recently” and found out Kipele’s pregnancy was confirmed on February 24.
Fort Worth Zoo spokesman Ron Surratt told Star-Telegram partner WFAA-TV to watch for the giraffe to begin walking with her tail stuck straight out. “I know April’s bowel habits, I know how many spots she has, I know her routine”. “Look at that magnificent long neck”.
