Susan G. Komen ‘Race for the Cure’ brings out thousands
“Superhero” is the theme of the race this year.
Dr. Christos Vaklavas and Dr. Karen Meneses will receive a total of $855,000 to investigate triple negative breast cancer and treatment disparities.
For breast cancer survivor, Sue Karol Roach it was a very special day because her daughter is getting married Saturday evening.
And many men fight the disease too.
Thousands of breast cancer survivors along with family, friends and community members hit the pavement to celebrate life and raise money for breast cancer research at the 24th annual Susan G. Komen Orange County Race for the Cure in Newport Beach Sunday.
A 75 percent of the proceeds go to programs right here in Colorado. The remaining 25 percent of the net income supports groundbreaking breast cancer research.
“The significant part of that story was I held my mammogram order in my purse for about seven months”, McKinney said after running in the race. Komen Chicago recently awarded over $1.05 million to 14 organizations for 2015. “And we will continue gathering each year until we find a cure”. ABC7 is a proud sponsor of the event.
