Susan Sarandon jabs Hillary Clinton on gay rights
Clinton has New Jersey’s delegates locked down, and will likely enjoy the same outsize black and latino support she has in this state in important primaries like SC.
But if it happens, MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow is probably partly to blame. Maddow recently pressed Sanders, for example, on whether he would follow through on regular complaints that the Democratic National Committee scheduled too few debates and put them in awful time slots, like the Sunday of a holiday weekend.
In her speech, Clinton also emphasized her argument that she’s the most electable Democrat, citing a spate of recent ads Republicans have been running against her aimed at strengthening Sanders. “I know there was some discussion the other day about a Politico interview, where he was tipping the scale toward Secretary Clinton – I don’t believe that at all”, the Vermont lawmaker told reporters on the White House driveway. “He’s the only one who hasn’t taken super PAC money, isn’t connected to all the corporations, to Wall Street, and I think that’s what this country needs”.
Symone Sanders, a spokeswoman for Sanders, had initially argued that candidates risked being barred by the DNC from future encounters if they chose to participate in unofficial debates. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley is in a distant third, with 4%. If Secretary Clinton wants more debates that’s great. Bernie Sanders have debated the issue intensely. “That’s where Hillary Clinton lost me, because there was plenty of information that even I had that said there was a real problem with the logic involved”, she said. “I’ve said for, you know, for a long time that I’d be happy to have more debates”. His private 45-minute meeting with Barack Obama at the Oval Office came just days before the Iowa caucuses.
It was the first extended conversation between the two since Sanders launched an unexpectedly strong challenge to Hillary Clinton for the Democratic presidential nomination. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt, speaks during a campaign event as actress Susan Sarandon listens at Music Man Square, Wednesday, Jan. 27, 2016 in Mason City, Iowa.
Commentators have also argued that while Sanders resembles Obama the grassroots campaigner, Clinton is a closer match to his pragmatic presidency. He acknowledged the two disagree on some issues such as taxes and the president’s Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal, but said this is the case with any politicians.
