Suspect, 3 victims wounded after high school game
The Muskegon County Prosecutor’s Office has file charged against 21-year-old Clarence Jamichael McCaleb.
The attack happened outside of Muskegon Heights High School after a game between its varsity boys team and that of Grand Rapids’ Ottawa Hills High School.
“Evidently, they met in the adjacent parking lot away from the school”, Thomas said.
Four people were shot – one by a sheriff’s deputy – outside a high school basketball game.
Muskegon Heights’ coach, Dalrecus Stewart, told The Muskegon Chronicle that his players had just left the gymnasium when the shooting started.
Thomas didn’t release the suspect’s name but said he is from the Grand Rapids area.
Officials believe the incident was prompted by a fight that occurred in Grand Rapids sometime last week, Muskegon Heights interim Police Chief Dr. Joseph Thomas told WXMI-TV.
They also will be available throughout the rest of the week as needed, Zachery-Ross said.
At that point, one of the suspects pulled out his weapon and pointed it at a deputy, despite being warned to drop the firearm, prompting him to do “what he was trained to do”, and resorted to force, according to USA Today.
“We did everything we could to prevent this from happening”, Thomas said, noting that state and local police along with county sheriff’s deputies had identified the suspects and were positioned to stop the individuals from entering the school or staying in the parking lot.
None of those hit suffered life-threatening injuries, authorities said, with the violence erupting on the same night a basketball game was played at the school. Classes at the high school were canceled Wednesday.
