Suspect fatally shot after police chase in Yonkers
The driver refused to stop and led officers on a pursuit into the City of Yonkers in nearby Westchester County.
It all started in the Riverdale section of the Bronx with the shooting of a 50-year-old man and was followed by a police pursuit up the Henry Hudson Parkway, 1010 WINS’ Al Jones reported. One person was arrested at the scene.
The officers, in a marked police vehicle, first tried to pull the suspects over at about 11:45 a.m.by 242nd Street and Broadway in the Fieldston neighborhood of the Bronx.
At a news conference, police officials told reporters that two police officers were hospitalized after the chase ended in a crash.
The passenger suspect was taken into custody on the scene.
Longworth also reported that the two NYPD officers were transported to St. Barnabas Hospital and were undergoing treatment for trauma, while a passenger of one of the civilian vehicles struck by the suspects was taken to Jacobi Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
Then one of the officers shot one of the men, striking him “on the chest”, according to NYPD.
A handgun had yet to be recovered by 2 p.m. Cops shut down the Saw Mill Parkway in both directions to conduct a search for the weapon and other evidence. Police searched for a third person who was believed to run into Tibbetts Brook Park, but it is unclear if that person exists.
