Suspect ID’d by ‘Ghostbusters’ cameraman may get new charges
BOSTON (AP) Authorities say a 72-year-old woman who was knocked to the ground in Boston has died soon after a cameraman working on the new “Ghostbusters” movie helped them track down the person who did it.
Downing violently shoved the victim to the ground near Chauncey and Essex Streets in Boston’s Chinatown section, prosecutors allege. “She was like an elderly woman and she was just flat out in that corner there”. Those charges were leveled before the elderly woman died. Her attorney didn’t return a call seeking comment Friday.
Lei hit her head on the pavement and died Thursday at a hospital.
“She was sprawled out on her back”, witness Fred McLlemore said.
Lei leaves behind two sons, a daughter and five grandchildren. Galatis told the Herald.
Kristen Wiig, Melissa McCarthy and Leslie Jones are among the “Ghostbusters” stars who have been spotted on set this week.
The cast and crew have been set up at a Japanese restaurant in Chinatown, which has been transformed into a New York diner for the film.
Downing has pleaded not guilty to assault charges.
Downing was originally held on $75,000 cash bail for allegedly assaulting 72-year-old Yuzhein Lei, but her bail was revoked due to two other open assault cases, including assaulting a boyfriend and a T employee.
Downing sobbed and shook during her arraignment in Boston Municipal Court.
‘This was an accident.
