Suspect In Custody After New Orleans Shooting That Left Student Injured
Surveillance video released by police shows a man that they identified as suspect Euric Cain targeting medical student Peter Cold on November 20, 2015 in New Orleans.
The Tulane University student stepped out of a vehicle, that’s when police say the man pointed his gun at gold, and demanded money.
The suspect in the shooting of a Tulane medical student who was apparently coming to the aid of a crime victim is in custody, according to the police.
Nick Gernon, from New Orleans Police Department, said: “There are a few parts of it (the video) when you can see the person’s face and then you can see the SUV he flees in”. The female victim was treated then released.
He was arrested by police and U.S. Marshals around 11:30 a.m. Monday at a home in the 2200 block of Delachaise Street, said NOPD spokesman Tyler Gamble.
The footage then shows the gunman attempt to shoot the student in the head as he lies injured on the ground, but the gun then jammed.
Tulane University announced Saturday that it was offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and indictment of Cain. Police said that’s when Cain’s gun jammed.
Supt. Harrison says Euric Cain has a lengthy criminal record, explaining, “We know that Cain was last arrested on November 2nd for possession of a stolen cell phone that was taken in a carjacking in the first district”.
The good Samaritan who stopped is a fourth year Tulane medical student who is now fighting for his life after receiving a bullet wound to his abdomen.
‘I ask that you keep Peter and his family in your thoughts and prayers, ‘ Fitts said.
“We know who you are and you need to know that we are going to find you”, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said in a message to Cane during a news conference Sunday. “We are going to catch you”, Police Superintendent Harrison said.
“I am shocked and saddened by this horrific event”. NBC reported Sunday that Gold’s family said he “continues to improve and remains in guarded condition”.
“Peter did his undergraduate work at Tulane, where he was very active at Hillel”, Fitts said in a statement to WGNO News.
