Suspect in custody in rape of 82-year-old woman during Brooklyn home invasion
Police arrested early Friday an 18-year-old in connection to the rape and kidnapping of an 82-year-old woman in Coney Island.
Officers canvassed the building but all they found was a bloody shoe that belonged to Robert, a source said. The man waited until the woman came inside, then tried to rob the woman at knifepoint, authorities say.
That’s when police said he sneaked into the house through the unlocked front door as the woman was sweeping outside, police said.
“They chased him earlier”, said witness Joshua Hudson.
Fearing for her life, police said the woman offered to cook for Roberts, but he instead became more violent, ransacking her dresser drawers for valuables. “He made her swear on a Jewish bible that she wouldn’t call police or he would kill her”.
After the attack, police say the suspect stole an umbrella and a bag of clothes before leaving. Robert’s mother told the Daily News she couldn’t believe he was accused of rape: “I can believe the robbery, he’s been arrested before, but if anything he’s overprotective of women… The victim did not have any money to provide to the suspect, and he remained inside the apartment for several hours”. CBS2 did reach out to the victim’s family, but they’re not ready yet to publicly comment on his arrest.
