Suspect in Daytona Beach shooting kills himself
A third roommate, a man, was shot four to six times. At some point during the struggle, Washington arms himself with a knife and says, ‘Look man, we can’t be doing this.
“Over a fight over rent money is basically what it comes down to”, said Chief Mike Chitwood of the Daytona Beach Police Department.
Bodden has a lengthy criminal record that includes kidnapping, robbery, and drugs. Chitwood said they asked another friend to help them confront Bodden.
Chitwood said, “He saved the state the expense”. “You can see where someone was shoved through sheet rock”. Somebody is going to get killed.
“He [Washington] fights with him, knocks the gun out of his hand”.
“It’s by the grace of God that he escaped”, Chitwood said. “Then he hears a series of shots”. McDonald and Carswell were both music majors at the school.
“He said he went to several apartments, begging, screaming for help”, Chitwood said. “The young ladies were shot point-blank range”.
Carswell and McDonald were shot in the head and died at the scene, Chitwood said. Everybody knew who this guy was.
Timesha’s family is in shock.
“I couldn’t sleep last night”.
McDonald, Carswell and Parham, a former Bethune-Cookman student, were Bodden’s roommates, and they had just moved into the two-bedroom unit a week ago.
On Friday authorities told the Michigan families that the statewide Florida manhunt was successful.
Bodden was arrested Friday in North Miami, said Gretl Plessinger, a spokeswoman for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. They tried to refund his first month’s rent. Parham dove into a closet to take cover, but Chitwood said Bodden fired into the closet multiple times, striking him. He nearly broke down as he talked about McDonald’s father, who had recently lost his wife to breast cancer.
21-year-old Micah Parham of Romulus remains in critical condition.
