Kalamazoo police at 12:40 a.m. Sunday pulled over a Chevrolet HHR linked to the shootings and arrested Jason Brian Dalton, 45, of Kalamazoo.
A gunman killed six people and wounded two in apparently random shootings in Kalamazoo County, Michigan, before being arrested early on Sunday, a prosecutor said. Hadley told 24 Hour News 8 that police were looking for Dalton’s hard drive and more weapons at the home. Four people were killed. A fifth person was critically wounded, Matyas said.
Michigan State Police Lt. Dale Hinz told WWMT-TV said the suspect is from Kalamazoo County. Dalton is expected to appear Monday before a judge in a Kalamazoo County courtroom.
“By the grace of God, we ended up canceling the Uber that we had”, said Carmen Morren, who provided a screenshot that showed that Mr. Dalton had been the driver for a trip that had been scrubbed.
He said Dalton introduced himself using a different name from the one listed as a driver.
The next two victims were a father and a son, shot and killed five hours and 15 miles away, in the parking lot of a auto dealership while they were shopping for a vehicle. Shooting locations included a Ford dealership, a Cracker Barrel restaurant and a town-house complex, the Gazette reported. Authorities identified them as Dorothy Brown, 74; Barbara Hawthorne, 68; Mary Lou Nye, 62; and Mary Jo Nye, 60. As of Sunday morning, the teenage girl was listed in critical condition.
The first shooting was in a parking lot where the gunman shot a woman walking to her auto several times.
“He would go a month without mowing his lawn but was very meticulous with his cars”, Pardo said.
It has been confirmed that Mr Dalton was a driver for cab-hailing firm Uber.
Dalton was arrested Sunday after the wave of attacks that took place on Saturday evening and it seems as he acted alone on the killings. The two men would talk at the fence that separates their properties.
“There’s this sense of loss, there’s this anger, there’s fear, there’s all these emotions”, Mr. Getting said.
According to the Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety, Dalton allegedly began shooting around 6pm local time at a residential complex north east of the city. When he got to the street, he stopped and rapidly backed toward his garage, turning his vehicle so the lights shined toward Block’s house, Block said.
