Lakeisha Holloway, 24, is now facing several charges, including murder with the use of a deadly weapon, and multiple counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon. The records also show that she was charged in OR in 2011 with operating a vehicle without driving privileges and driving uninsured. She was convicted in March 2012. Holloway is originally from OR, but authorities are “having difficulty obtaining her background”, he said. Officials arrested her soon after.
Sheriff Lombardo described her as “stoic” when officers arrived, and said she did not resist arrest.
Holloway told The Skanner she had been homeless in high school and had a mother who struggled to make a living with an eighth-grade education and had increasingly turned to alcohol. She faces initial charges of murder with a deadly weapon, child abuse or neglect, and duty to stay at the scene of an accident. He said she could be in court as early as Tuesday. Cohen said a Canadian was among three victims listed in critical condition.
Some reports suggested one of the injured was 21-year-old Anthony Hamel, from Delson, near Montreal.
Zimmerman said that Holloway drive into the sidewalk at least three or four times. Investigators believe that she was headed to Dallas to find the father of her daughter after they had a falling out.
Despite a drug recognition expert at the scene saying that she was under the influence of some stimulant, there was no evidence to prove that, and Holloway also denied the allegation. The non-profit for at-risk teens helped Holloway enroll in Portland Community College and set her up with a job at the U.S. Forest Service.
Nineteen people from the university, including students and coaches, were walking together along the Strip when a vehicle swerved toward them, he said.
Canada’s Global Affairs department spokesman John Babcock said he couldn’t immediately provide information on the condition of the Canadian citizens.
The four are members of the Pacific University wrestling team who were in Las Vegas for a tournament, university media relations director Joe Lang said. She is in custody.
“She didn’t appear to be distressed due to her actions”, Lombardo said.
