Suspect in Washington State shooting captured
Island County Sheriff’s personnel have arrested a person of interest in the September 23 Burlington, Washington mass public shooting.
A gunman is on the run and three people have been shot dead and at least one wounded in a USA shopping centre in the north-western U.S. town of Burlington, Washington State Police have confirmed.
ANGELES Five people were killed on Friday in a shooting at a mall in the USA state of Washington with the gunman described as a “Hispanic male” still at large. He said 11 search teams and two K9 units were involved.
At a vigil held for the victims Saturday morning in Burlington’s Maiben Park, Kelly Couture, who exited the mall through a Target store as the chaos was unfolding, told The Seattle Times there were “just sirens and people were yelling and running out of the building”.
The gunman allegedly opened fire with a rifle in the mall before disappearing under the cover of darkness.
As police scrambled to find the shooter, the small city about 60 miles (97 kilometers) north of Seattle settled into a new and nerve-wracking reality.
Police are still searching for a man accused of shooting and killing five people inside a shopping mall on Friday night.
The man has been identified as 20-year-old Arcan Cetin, a resident of Oak Harbor, WA. This new information came after Sergeant Mark Francis told people to “stay indoors” and “stay secure” at an earlier press conference, reporting that the gunman left the scene before authorities arrived.
The man wreaked havoc on Friday night when he entered a Macy’s Department Store with a rifle and killed five people, four of whom were women.
The shooter was last seen walking towards Interstate 5 at 7 p.m.
Mount Vernon Police Lt. Chris Cammock said Saturday the female victims’ ages ranged from teens to seniors.
“It was the world knocking on our doorstep and it came to our little community here”, he said before acknowledging the response by law enforcement.
A Federal Bureau of Investigation official told reporters there was “no evidence at this time” of a link to terrorism.
The suspect was reported to have walked into the make-up section of Macy’s department store and opened fire.
The police believe there is only one shooter, and their motive is unknown, Trooper Rick Johnson said, according to The Daily Mail. The weapon was recovered at the scene.
The names of the victims have not been released. Police said there was only one gunman.
Anxious residents feared for their safety Saturday.
She drove home, but said she had to pull over. Cars parked at the mall can not be retrieved until sometime Saturday. Maria Elena Vasquez of Burlington attended a community gathering Saturday.
