Suspect planned to kill several people at market
Police say a woman has been killed in a knife attack at a supermarket in southern Maine.
Connor MacCalister, 31, of Saco, was arrested and was charged with murder Wednesday night.
She wanted to target a small elderly woman who “she knew wouldn’t resist”.
Police say MacCalister stabbed 59-year-old Wendy Boudreau near the ice cream freezers at the supermarket.
She was scheduled to make her first appearance Friday in York County Superior Court in Alfred.
WCSH The grocery store stayed open for at least two hours after the stabbing and left a sign that said “due to emergency we are closed at the time!” in the door.
When the witness asked MacCalister the reason for the attack, the suspect responded, “She looked at me amusing”.
Saco residents expressed shock Thursday over Boudreau’s killing.
“I think he’s at as much of a loss as anyone else right now”, Paul said. My kids are so devastated, they loved their grandmother so much, she was a huge presence in their lives.
A Shaw’s employee who was working in the bakery department said she heard screaming and saw MacCalister standing over Boudreau, who was sitting on the floor, slumped over, the affidavit says. “I’ve never really talked to her”, neighbor Terri Cote said.
State Senator Linda Valentino said on Facebook that she had grown up with Boudreau.
MacCalister’s neighbors said they didn’t know much about the accused attacker.
