Suspect shot by police at state capitol identified
Lincoln police shot a man outside the Nebraska Capitol this afternoon as he ran from arrest, but his name and condition have not been released.
Lincoln police and medical units are on the scene of a shooting outside the Nebraska Capitol.
No members of law enforcement were injured.
“This witness says there were at least 5 shots from Police when a man was running away”.
According to Lincoln Police Captain Danny Reitan, an officer made a traffic stop at 12th & K Streets shortly after 1 p.m. The back seat passenger of the stopped vehicle fled on foot. The man then turned and ran into the street.
“I saw a sheriff’s deputy auto turn from H Street north on 14th, and when he got around the corner, he sped up quite a bit, which is not normal, so that’s why I started paying attention”, Lux said. Witnesses say they heard three or four shots and reported that Artis appeared to have been hit in the thighs.
Retian said he didn’t know how many shots were fired or how many officers were involved. Gov. Pete Ricketts was traveling in western Nebraska at the time, said spokesman Taylor Gage.
The Lincoln Police Department is investigating the shooting with LSO’s assistance.
It is unknown whether the man’s injuries were life-threatening.
